In southern Africa, there's promising news for elephant conservation. A comprehensive study spanning 25 years reveals a halt in the decline of savannah elephant populations, with numbers bouncing back to 1995 levels, totaling 290,000 elephants. The key to this success lies in safeguarding interconnected habitats, enabling elephants to migrate and minimizing conflicts with human settlements.

The daunting:

In the regions surrounding Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe, a substantial carbon project has failed to significantly alleviate local poverty. Despite covering an expansive area and generating over €100 million in revenue from carbon credit sales since 2011, communities continue to grapple with basic infrastructure deficiencies and high poverty rates, with Hurungwe district averaging an alarming 88% poverty rate. The disparity between the project's revenue and its impact on local livelihoods is stark, with only a fraction of the promised benefits reaching these communities.
